Two packs · £15 or £29 one-time · Instant download

The done-for-you legionella compliance kit.

An inspector doesn’t want to see your risk assessment. They want twelve months of temperature records. Basic is the exact legal documents to write it in; Pro adds the knowledge and the record-keeping system to run it properly.

01 — Free first, then done-for-you

Start free. Pay when you want the finished thing.

We give the blank template away because it is genuinely useful. Here is exactly what it does — and what each pack adds on top of it.

Start free — £0

The structure, honestly useful

A Word template built on the five-step ACOP L8 approach, emailed instantly — backed by 180 plain-English guides, six interactive tools and a browser log book on this site. No sign-up wall, no expiry.

For the simplest systems, worked through carefully, it can be enough. What it can’t do is make the judgement calls that fill it in — or flag the monthly check you missed in March.

When you’re ready to pay

The finished thing, in two sizes

Basic (£15) is the three editable legal documents — risk assessment, Written Scheme of Control, Responsible Person appointment — fuller than the free template, ready to write into.

Pro (£29) is those documents plus everything around them: six completed examples to copy the shape of, a 20-page handbook that explains every section, and a log book that watches the dates for you.

Same structure either way — the question is how much of the work you want done with you. Documents only: Basic. Documents, teaching, examples and the record-keeping system: Pro.

02 — Side by side

Free vs Basic vs Pro: what changes when you pay

Everything in the free column stays free — no expiry, no sign-up wall. Basic is the documents; Pro is the done-for-you version.

01–03Editable legal document set (.docx)Basic + Pro

00The Legionella Compliance Handbook (PDF)Pro · 20 pages

Ten plain-English sections: whether you have a duty, what the law says (ACOP L8, HSWA 1974, HSG274 without the jargon), the temperature rules, how to survey your own water system, setting your controls, what records an inspector actually asks for, a fully worked example, and when to stop and call a professional.

05–10Six fully worked example assessments (.docx)Pro · 6 sectors

Complete, filled-in assessments for a care home, school, small office, holiday let, dental practice and single-let flat — temperatures recorded, risk factors named, actions table filled. Editable, so you lift the structure and swap in your details. Each is clearly marked as an illustrative example, not a real property.

11The Enforcement Case File (PDF)Pro · 12 cases · ~£900k fines

Twelve real legionella prosecutions, annotated: what happened, the failings inspectors found, the fines, and the lesson for a duty holder — with primary sources cited. This is what getting it wrong actually costs.

04Legionella Log Book (.xlsx)Pro · 10 tabs · 871 formulas

Type 46°C into the hot-water column and the row flags OUT OF RANGE; miss a monthly check and the Dashboard flags it OVERDUE; close an action and the status flips itself. An import tab takes a CSV straight from the free log-book tool on this site — start free, continue in the pack.

Sector preset log books (.xlsx)Pro · 6 pre-filled

The same smart workbook pre-filled for your building — care home, school, small office, holiday let, dental practice, single-let flat. Open yours and the register is half done.

Included with every Pro purchase

Lifetime updatesBuy once

Every future edition is included in the one-off price. The pack is refreshed at least once a year — after the annual UKHSA surveillance release and any guidance or case-law changes — and your key unlocks them all.

Pro Support20 questions / day

A private chat that answers compliance questions from our published guidance — 180 guides — with sources cited. General guidance, not a substitute for a competent assessor on complex systems.

Assessment document generator9 questions

Your nine wizard answers become a structured DRAFT assessment document to print or download as .docx — then complete and adapt it against your own system.

04 — Who this is for

Built for the duty holder, not the consultant

Each Pro worked example is a complete, filled-in assessment for a building like yours — lift the structure, swap in your details.

Landlord with one flat

You just need the documents right and a simple routine. Basic covers the paperwork; Pro’s single-let flat worked example shows one completed end to end.

Small portfolio

Two to ten lets, same duty each time. Use the single-let flat worked example as your pattern for every property, and a preset log book per address.

Care home

Vulnerable residents raise the stakes and the scrutiny. The care home worked example covers sentinel outlets, TMVs and the records inspectors ask for first.

School

Holidays mean stagnant water and a flushing regime. The school worked example shows how term-time and closure periods are recorded.

Holiday let

Intermittent occupancy is itself a risk factor. The holiday let worked example builds the changeover flush into the written scheme.

Dental practice

Clinical water lines sit under tighter expectations. The dental practice worked example shows the monitoring layout inspectors expect to see.

06 — The honest bit

What these packs do — and what they never will

Independent

LegionellaCheck is an independent UK water-hygiene information service — not affiliated with HSE, UKHSA or the Legionella Control Association, and not a consultancy selling assessments.

Records — never certifies

These packs help you understand your duty, carry out an assessment and record what you found. No document can certify your water system safe, and we won’t pretend otherwise.

Illustrative examples

Every worked example is clearly marked as an illustrative example — realistic, but not a real property. Your assessment must describe your system; the examples show you the shape of a good one.

Where DIY stops

Cooling tower, spa pool, healthcare premises or clinically vulnerable residents? You need a competent professional assessor. The Handbook’s most important section tells you exactly where that line is.

07 — Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this just the free template with a price tag?

No. The free template is one empty document — a sound structure, but empty. Basic is the three editable legal-structure documents, fuller than the free template. Pro adds the teaching handbook, six worked example assessments showing the document completed for buildings like yours, the formula-driven log book, and the support around them. The free template stays free either way; the packs are for people who want the work done with them.

What is the difference between Basic and Pro?

Basic (£15) is the editable legal documents: the risk assessment, the Written Scheme of Control and the Responsible Person appointment record, as Word files. Pro (£29) is everything in Basic plus the 20-page handbook, six worked example assessments, the 871-formula log book with dashboard, six sector preset log books, the annotated enforcement case file, lifetime updates, Pro Support chat and the assessment document generator.

How is it delivered?

Instantly. Payment is handled by Stripe, and the moment it completes your confirmation page shows your license key — the same key is emailed to you within seconds. The key unlocks the download page for your tier — the Basic zip (3 documents) or the Pro zip (21 files), which also unlocks Pro Support and the assessment document generator.

What is the refund policy?

30 days, provided the pack has not been downloaded. Because these are digital files, the 30-day change-of-mind refund ends once you download the pack — but if a file is faulty, corrupted or not as described on this page, we will repair, replace or refund it regardless of whether it has been downloaded. Email hello@legionellacheck.org.uk with your license key. Your statutory rights are not affected.

Does it certify my building as legionella-safe?

No — and nothing on paper can. It helps you assess, control and record, which is what the law actually asks for. Where you need a professional, the pack tells you so, in the Handbook’s most important section.

What format are the files?

Editable Word documents for the legal documents and worked examples, PDF for the Handbook and the case file, Excel workbooks for the log books. Everything opens in Word, Excel, Google Docs and LibreOffice.

Do I get future updates?

With Pro, yes — you buy once and every future edition is included. The pack is refreshed at least once a year — after the annual UKHSA surveillance release and any guidance or case-law changes — and your license key unlocks every edition. Basic is the current edition of the three documents.

Is VAT included — and do I get a receipt?

£15 or £29 is the full price, VAT included; nothing is added at checkout. Stripe provides a payment receipt for every completed checkout, and the email carrying your license key is your proof of purchase. If you need anything further for your records, email hello@legionellacheck.org.uk.

What if something goes wrong with my purchase?

A lost key, a failed download, a typo in your email address — email us within 14 days of purchase and a human replies. The download page accepts your key any time, so a lost file is never a lost purchase.

Who writes the pack?

The LegionellaCheck editorial team — an independent UK water-hygiene information service. Every document is drafted against the primary sources (ACOP L8, HSG274, HSWA 1974) and reviewed at least annually. Not legal advice; not a substitute for a competent assessor on complex systems.

Do the check. Keep the records. £15 or £29, once.

Buy once, download instantly. Basic is the documents; Pro adds the teaching, the examples and a system that flags what you miss. They record — they never certify.
